Characterised by lush, green volcanic cliffs and picturesque Mediterranean style buildings, the spectacular natural beauty of the emerald Azores Islands is more than matched underwater. The deep water channels surrounding this mid-Atlantic archipelago reward the visitor with exhilarating, challenging dives and incredible pelagic encounters.

See more on, and under the water

Explore labyrinthine tunnels, canyons and arches etched out by ancient lava streams. Encounter at least 25 different pelagic species including beaked whales, sperm whales, fin whales, humpbacks, false killer whales, spotted, bottlenose and Risso’s dolphins, turtles, rays and more. Even whale sharks are summer visitors, and the famed blue shark season runs from June to October. The Azores offer truly adventurous diving. The exposed location of the islands and the fascinating volcanic terrain mean unique diving in unique conditions.

Reached in under four hours from the UK, Regaldive offer a range of options across four islands including twin centre trips to maximise your holiday to this exciting destination:

The Green Island - Sao Miguel

Part of the Eastern group of islands, Sao Miguel is a fantastic introduction to the Azores. Explore the many sites of the islet of Vila Franca, swim across bubbling hydrothermal vents and discover the wreck of the 100m cargo ship MV Dori. On land, enjoy Terra Nostra Gardens, hot springs, and the cosmopolitan marina of Ponta Delgada.

The Island of the Sun - Santa Maria

Laying claim as the oldest, flattest, warmest and sunniest island, Santa Maria offers the closest proximity to the challenging dive sites of Ilheus das Formigas and Dollabarat Banks. These submerged sea mounts guarantee exhilarating dives and pelagic encounters for experienced divers. Dwell on history and follow in the footsteps of Christopher Columbus on land.

The Grey Island - Pico

Rising dramatically from sea level to peak, Pico’s volcanic tip at 2351m dominates the beautiful land and seascape of the central island group. Pico’s deep waters and proximity to the mid-Atlantic ridge offer some of the best sightings of blue sharks, as well as the famed site of Princess Alice Bank. The island’s UNESCO protected 15th century vineyards offer a superb distraction above water.

The Lilac Island - Terceira

Terceira’s unique underwater rock formations, walls and an anchor graveyard offers something for divers searching for a selection of shore dive sites, as well as RIB diving. The island’s main town, the World Heritage site of Angra do Heroismo, holds an important place in maritime history and there is plenty to explore topside.

The Azores islands are well suited to twin centre island combinations, which we recommend for stays of 10 nights or more. With flexible scheduled and charter flights available, Regaldive can plan your itinerary for the optimum experience of these islands. Sao Miguel twins well with Santa Maria, Pico or Terceira.  Pico twins well with Terceira.
