Nudibranch means ‘naked gills’ and these slippery little jewels live their fairly short lives with their gills on the outside of their body. Yet they aren’t afraid of the presence of a human and pose perfectly for the underwater photographer. It is a thrill to frame them as the main subject of a “still” life and catch their bright, delicate gill appendages swaying in the current.

Unexpected delights in the Red Sea

I was picked up in the morning from my hotel, the impeccable Sunrise Marina Resort in Port Ghalib, and a few minutes later was welcomed at the Emperor Divers dive centre on the far side of the marina. As this was a work trip rather than a diving trip, I hadn’t brought my dive gear.

What to Expect on a Diving Holiday to Riviera Maya

From the mainland, divers can explore the ocean reefs along the Riviera Maya coastline. The reefs have a colourful mix of classic Caribbean corals and are populated by large shoals of grey snapper and porkfish, which form highways along the overhangs. I also saw spider crabs, nurse sharks, flounders, flamingo tongue snail, and plenty more marine life.

Maldives Diving Resorts: A Review

You recently enjoyed a big dive trip to the Maldives. Where did your adventure take you? 

My Maldives diving itinerary included three islands and three Euro Divers dive centres over 14 days. Taking travelling and deco no-fly times into consideration, this gave me roughly three full days of diving at each resort.

Fantastic Turtles

The turtle has to be my favourite marine animal, and I get excited each time I see a one. Whether it’s a big chunky green or a snappy little hawksbill, I will endeavour to point it out to my buddy using the well-known hand signal we all know and love. Green Turtles Nesting at Oasis Dive Resort!

The team at the Oasis Dive Resort in Marsa Alam are thrilled to have green turtles nesting on the beach!

One morning at sunrise at the end of January, a guest observed a green turtle depositing her eggs on the beach just in front of the resort.  From the tracks leading to and from the water, the team think that it was one female.

Diving with whale sharks ranks near the top of any diver’s bucket list. These gentle giants of the underwater world may look intimidating due to their enormous size but in fact they are known to pose no threat to humans, and munch their way through algae, plankton and krill, filtered from seawater through their enormous mouths.
