The Kaktus Hotel & Co-Working Hub is a laid-back, eco-friendly spot that's quickly become a go-to for divers, digital nomads, and active travellers.
This accommodation is a great mix of Red Sea adventure and proper relaxation, with a sustainable, modern design that gives the whole place a fresh, grounded feel.
Whether you're coming back from a diving day or a relaxed snorkel over the house reef, the hotel is a genuinely comfortable place to wind down. It's a stylish base for an Egyptian diving holiday — the kind of spot where both adventure and downtime feel equally well looked after.
Accommodation
The Kaktus Hotel has 198 rooms, with several accommodation types designed to suit different travellers. Soma Bay View rooms provide sweeping vistas over the distinctive desert and sea landscape, while Garden View rooms offer a quieter outlook onto the hotel's green spaces. For those who enjoy being at the heart of the resort, the Pool View rooms are situated closest to the water.
The One-Bedroom Suites are a popular choice for couples or solo travellers wanting a little more room, while the Two-Bedroom Suites offer a practical and comfortable arrangement for families or small dive groups to enjoy.
All rooms feature a television, air-conditioning, mini-fridge, and a safety deposit box, while suites also include coffee-making facilities.
Facilities
The Kaktus Hotel has everything you need to round off a great day's diving. The Vibe Pool is a brilliant spot to cool off, and the bar is right there when you fancy a refreshing drink. The restaurants and café serve up a delicious mix of local and international food — ideal for refuelling before your next dive. There's also a spa for those days when you need a bit of recovery, and a well-equipped gym.
Location
About 45 minutes from Hurghada Airport, Soma Bay is a brilliant spot just outside Safaga. The Ras Abu Soma peninsula is well known for its long sandy beaches and one of the finest house reefs in the Red Sea. The coral here is so good that passing liveaboard safari boats regularly pull in to let their divers take a look at the drop-offs.
The Kaktus Hotel sits on the desert side of Soma Bay, a little back from the beach, which makes it a nice peaceful spot. Getting to the water is no bother at all, as a free shuttle bus runs directly to the ORCA Dive Club, so you're at the reef and ready to go in no time.

The centre is well set up for both recreational and technical divers, with qualified SSI and PADI instructors running a good range of courses and specialist training, including a dedicated Freediving Academy (Mares Test Centre). There's full rebreather support too, with various units available for hire and a Rebreather Academy on-site. The on-site compressors and Nitrox system keep things safe, giving you longer bottom times on the house reef, and there's an additional Nitrox membrane system over at the Soma Bay Marina.
The centre has a solid range of kit available, including 8, 10, 12, and 15-litre aluminium tanks, with rental gear in all sizes — children's equipment included. On-site, you can find a spacious open-air area, a check-in office, classrooms, and secure dry rooms. There's also a well-stocked shop for any diving essentials you might need, and the diver's bar — with its brilliant views over the beach and jetty — is just the spot to log your dives and swap stories over a cold drink.
Please note that it's compulsory at Orca Dive Club to dive with a dive computer. All divers with fewer than 30 logged dives must be guided. Guided dives cost is €5 per person per dive.
From January 2023, the following environmental fee is applicable to all trips with Orca Divers. Fees are paid locally, and are non-refundable.
- National park fees: €5 per person, per day
- Tax & permissions: €5 per person, per day

Planning your Holiday
Visas
Entry requirements vary from country to country, and it’s important to check the latest visa information well before you travel. Some destinations may allow visa-free entry for a limited period, while others require an eVisa or a visa obtained in advance. To ensure you have the correct documentation for your trip, we recommend checking the official advice from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) or contacting the relevant country’s embassy or consulate. Other nationalities should check with their own consulate/embassy.
Passports
Before you travel, make sure your passport is valid for the full duration of your trip and meets the entry requirements of your destination. Many countries require at least six months’ validity beyond your planned return date, while others may have different rules. For the most reliable and up-to-date information, visit the UK Government’s passport guidance or the official travel advice pages for your destination. Other nationalities should check with their own consulate/embassy.
If you’re planning to travel to or via an EU country (with certain exceptions) your UK passport must meet two key requirements, it must be less than 10 years old on the day you enter the country and it must be valid for at least three months after your planned departure date.
Vaccinations & Health Advice
Health and vaccination requirements differ depending on where you're travelling. Some destinations may require proof of specific vaccinations or recommend certain precautions to protect your wellbeing.
We’re not qualified to provide you with specific advice on vaccinations and strongly recommend that you contact your healthcare professional before you travel to discuss the inoculations you may need to consider.
For trusted guidance on health and vaccination advice, refer to the NHS Travel Vaccination Advice, Masta Travel Health or Travel Health Pro websites.
