Best of Palau
Manta rays, wrecks, sharks, spawning events, and thrilling channel dives await in Palau’s crystal-clear waters. Best of Palau…

Where's the best liveaboard diving in Palau
Vessels tour the finest dive sites in Palau throughout the year, ensuring the best dive sites on every dive. Highlights include the coral encrusted walls of the Ulong Channel, Shark City, Blue Corner and Peleliu Cut.
Many dive sites are offered as exhilarating drift dive, or reef hooks are required to allow divers to hook on and watch the show.
The German Channel – so named as it was cut out by German miners - is one of a number of places with manta ray cleaning stations, complimenting the abundance of shark species. Whale shark can sometimes be spotted around the outer reefs. There are plenty of smaller and more unusual critters to be found, including the elusive nautilus, frogfish, mandarin fish, pipefish and an array of nudibranchs.
Wreck divers will not be disappointed. The Iro Maru Wreck is close to the harbour of Koror and the Jake Sea Plane, a great photo opportunity, is also nearby.
What to see when
Palau is blessed with outstanding marine life encounters throughout the year and a mix or large and small species is all but guaranteed.
December through to March is a particularly good time for those hoping to encounter manta ray. These months are also good for a variety of shark species as they patrol the reefs. Blacktip, whitetip and grey reef shark are the most common species observed.
Palau is an outstanding destination in which to see spawning events, where huge numbers of a particular species gather, creating an extraordinary spectacle. Timing is key for these encounters, which are based around the cycle of the moon. The November full moon sees red snapper gather in vast numbers in a display worthy of the attention of a National Geographic documentary. The December full moon is the turn of bumphead parrotfish, known for their distinctive large foreheads. April and May are a good time for spawning events for both bumphead parrotfish and snapper.
July through to November tends to see more macro species and is a good time for photographers, but larger species are still prevalent in numbers.
Jellyfish Lake is currently closed to visitors.
Itineraries

Planning your Holiday
Flight information

There are regular connections to both Guam and Manila throughout the year via hubs in Asia. Guam can also be reached via the USA.
Departure Tax
A departure tax and a “Green Fee” are required for each person departing Palau. The “Green Fee” is used to fund Palau’s Protected Area Network’s for conservation purposes.
Please note: The U.S dollar is used throughout Palau. Credit cards are widely accepted. Banking facilities in Koror are limited therefore it is recommended that you obtain US dollars prior to your arrival in Palau.
Visas
Entry requirements vary from country to country, and it’s important to check the latest visa information well before you travel. Some destinations may allow visa-free entry for a limited period, while others require an eVisa or a visa obtained in advance. To ensure you have the correct documentation for your trip, we recommend checking the official advice from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) or contacting the relevant country’s embassy or consulate. Other nationalities should check with their own consulate/embassy.
Passports
Before you travel, make sure your passport is valid for the full duration of your trip and meets the entry requirements of your destination. Many countries require at least six months’ validity beyond your planned return date, while others may have different rules. For the most reliable and up-to-date information, visit the UK Government’s passport guidance or the official travel advice pages for your destination. Other nationalities should check with their own consulate/embassy.
If you’re planning to travel to or via an EU country (with certain exceptions) your UK passport must meet two key requirements, it must be less than 10 years old on the day you enter the country and it must be valid for at least three months after your planned departure date.
Vaccinations & Health Advice
Health and vaccination requirements differ depending on where you're travelling. Some destinations may require proof of specific vaccinations or recommend certain precautions to protect your wellbeing.
We’re not qualified to provide you with specific advice on vaccinations and strongly recommend that you contact your healthcare professional before you travel to discuss the inoculations you may need to consider.
For trusted guidance on health and vaccination advice, refer to the NHS Travel Vaccination Advice, Masta Travel Health or Travel Health Pro websites.
About Palau Liveaboards
When's the best time to dive in Palau by liveaboard
Palau is part of the Micronesian Island chain and is located just north of the Equator. This gives Palau some of the most favourable tropical weather on earth with moderate temperatures and soft ocean breezes all year round.
December to March is widely regarded as the peak months for diving. During this time there is minimal rainfall, seas tend to be calm and visibility can exceed 40 metres.
April to July brings increased humidity and sporadic rain showers, but these rarely affect underwater visibility.
August to November sees higher rainfall and slightly reduced visibility, but diving remains exceptional.
Who is liveaboard diving in Palau suitable for
A Palau liveaboard is recommended for more experienced and able divers who have undertaken liveaboards previously. Strong currents should be expected and the use of reef hooks is common when diving in Palau.
