Egypt – Red Sea Information

Which Red Sea Destination to Choose ...

Regaldive offers a choice of ten Egyptian Red Sea resorts and an impressive range of liveaboard options for those wanting to travel further afield. Hurghada, Sharm el Sheikh and Marsa Alam are your gateway to the Red Sea and are all established resorts with a unique and very different charm.

Hurghada offers a glimpse of the real Egypt, with superb range of dive sites just a short boat ride away. The smaller resorts of El Gouna and Safaga are great options from which to explore the best of northern reefs and wrecks while staying just a short distance away from Hurghada itself.

The spectacular coastline to the south of Hurghada has opened up to reveal tranquil, pristine diving, and direct flights into Marsa Alam throughout the year mean that it is now even easier to access the impressive marine parks of the southern Red Sea.

Hamata is located in the southernmost area of the Egyptian Red Sea. This is the ultimate in remote diving, offering pristine reef systems that have been relatively unexplored.

Resort & Liveaboard Diving

Resort diving offers convenient access to stunning local dive sites, combined with the comfort of onshore amenities and cultural experiences. Liveaboard diving, however, takes adventurers further afield, allowing them to explore remote and pristine locations with ease.

Learn to dive in Egypt

Egypt is an excellent choice for beginner divers who want to become certified. We recommend learning to dive in either Sharm el Sheikh, Hurghada and Soma Bay, and have created 8-day holiday packages that offer excellent value and expert instructors.

Tailor-made holidays & twin centres

The Choice is Yours ...

Whichever destination you choose, your Red Sea holiday can be a great combination of superb diving, beach relaxation and cultural discovery. With over seven centuries of history, there is so much more to do in Egypt than just dive!

The Red Sea is an ideal base from which to explore the wonders of the Pyramids, perhaps take a day trip to Cairo, go star gazing with the Bedouins or visit spectacular Luxor on the banks of the Nile. When you take a holiday in the Red Sea, you are surrounded by some of the most stunning scenery in the world. Here the richness of the seas is complemented by the starkness and beauty of the desert.

Whether you choose to spend most of your holiday above or below the water line, you’ll not be disappointed.

There are also a great variety of resorts and liveaboards on offer in the Red Sea, which have everything a diver could wish for. For the best of both worlds, our mini dive safaris combine liveaboard and resort-based diving, whilst our land-based liveaboard trip allows you to explore Sharm el Sheikh's diving highlights whilst staying in beach cabins just a stone's throw from the sea.

What to see when

Diving in Egypt's Red Sea reveals an extraordinary array of marine species. Divers can encounter vibrant coral gardens teeming with life, including colorful fish like butterflyfish, angelfish, and parrotfish. Larger marine creatures such as reef sharks, hammerheads, and manta rays often make appearances, while eagle rays and the elusive dugong add a special thrill. Turtles glide gracefully through the waters, and curious dolphins may join divers on their excursions. The diverse marine ecosystem also includes moray eels, lionfish, scorpionfish, and an impressive variety of invertebrates, making each dive a unique and exciting experience.

About Egypt – Red Sea

When to dive the Red Sea

Diving in Egypt is possible year-round, but the best conditions are typically found from March to May and September to November. During these periods, the water is warm, visibility is excellent, and marine life is abundant, making it an ideal time for both resort and liveaboard diving. These months also avoid the extreme heat of summer and the cooler winter temperatures, providing a comfortable and enjoyable diving experience.

Who is Red Sea diving suitable for?

Egypt diving is suitable for a wide range of divers, from beginners to experienced enthusiasts. The country's diverse underwater landscapes include shallow reefs and calm waters perfect for novices, as well as deeper, more challenging sites with strong currents for advanced divers seeking adventure. With numerous dive centers offering courses and guided dives, Egypt is an excellent destination for learning and improving diving skills. Additionally, its vibrant marine life, historical wrecks, and varied dive sites appeal to underwater photographers and those interested in marine biology. The combination of accessible dive sites and the option for more specialized experiences makes Egypt a versatile diving destination for all levels and interests.

What's the best way to dive the Red Sea

Egypt offers some of the world's most spectacular diving, a mere few hours flight from the UK. With year-round sunshine and a fabulous selection of reefs, walls, and iconic wrecks, it's a paradise for every diver.

Resort-based diving provides fantastic flexibility. Explore famous shore dives like the Blue Hole in Dahab or Abu Dabbab in Marsa Alam. From a boat, discover Sharm's Ras Mohammed National Park or Safaga's Panorama Reef.

For the ultimate experience, a Red Sea liveaboard is unparalleled. These modern vessels offer comfortable accommodation, delicious food, and up to three dives a day. Northern itineraries focus on legendary wrecks like the Thistlegorm, while southern routes reveal the pristine marine parks of the Brothers Islands, Daedalus, St. John's and Elba Reef.
