Dive info
There are over 30 dive sites that can be reached from each base in the north-east and north-west of the island of Bali. These range in style from the current swept sites off Menjangan island, through to the calm waters of Secret Bay (locally known as Gilimanuk Bay) and the wreck of the Tulamben (USS Liberty).
House Reefs
The Taman Selini has a pleasant shore dive where you may explore the Jakarta University Artificial Reef project. It makes a great little night dive. However, shore dives are booked locally, as the dives off the house reef are limited in scope, so boat packages are preferred.
The house reefs at the Alam Anda and Siddhartha are more extensive, hence house reef dive packs are offered. The reef starts a few metres edge from the shore and the resorts have purpose built entries to ease access.
Snorkelling
In general, snorkellers will not encounter any strong currents when snorkelling from these shore areas. Snorkellers will enjoy the calm conditions and easy entry from the volcanic beach when staying at Taman Selini, but may not enjoy the snorkelling from the shore as much as from a boat, due to the depth of the reef.
Alam Anda and Siddhartha in the north-east, have fine house reefs located a short distance from the beach and are much shallower, so offer the snorkeller more to see.
Secret Bay (Gilimanuk)
Interest in diving this bay, located on the west coast of Bali, has blossomed over the past few years. The bay offers macro enthusiasts the opportunity to dive with a huge diversity of macro subjects, ranging from seahorses and a variety of ghost pipefish through to dragonet, nudibranchs, mantis shrimp and many more. This mangrove lined bay is 40 minutes drive from the hotels and is an absolute must for keen macro photographers.
Menjangan Island
Located in the Bali Barat National Park, 50 minutes by boat from Pemuteran, Menjangan is one of the best dive locations in Bali. This sizable uninhabited island has 12 recognised dive sites. These range from dramatic sheer sided drop offs to small caves, sandy slopes and a beautiful blue lagoon, which is home to some well camouflaged ghost pipefish. Being located so close to the straits between Bali & Java; deep water pelagic species are regular visitors. During the rainy season there is a good chance that divers will encounter manta rays.
Menjangan provides an excellent contrast to the macro life of Secret Bay as bigger fish like Napoleon wrasse, grouper, greater barracuda and sharks are regularly encountered. Menjangan also boasts its own wreck, a 19th century trading vessel. Although lying between 30m and 46m, the wreck is for experienced divers only.
Gondol Reef
Gondol Reef is a recently discovered and little explored location, which is quickly developing a reputation for the quality of its dive sites and its large pelagic species. The northern end of the reef offers an attractive wall dive whilst the eastern end gently drops in to the blue.
Local Dive Sites
There are a number of excellent dive sites near to the Taman Selini. Two kilometres off shore from these resorts there is a fine reef with excellent coral cover along the slopes. The east side of the reef is particularly beautiful, with numerous shallow caves supporting healthy sponges and providing many hiding places for an interesting range of macro life.
Located just off the beach of the the Taman Selini, Karang Lestari is an award winning artificial reef project supported by the University of Jakarta, which stimulates coral growth on man-made metal structures using low voltage electricity. The process encourages coral to grow at eight times the normal rate and the frames make an excellent nursing ground for juvenile reef fish.
Just beyond Karang Lestari, Kebun Batu or Rock Garden is a pinnacle of coral with a flat top. This is an interesting dive during the day, which offers many macro subjects though comes in to its own at night, when it makes for a superb night dive.
The Liberty Wreck at Tulamben
On the northeast coast of Bali this transport ship, the USS Liberty, was torpedoed in 1942 off Gili Trawangan, Lombok. Whilst trying to make it back to a friendly anchorage at Singaraja, her crew decided to beach her on the Bali coast. The wreck now lies within 10-30metres of the surface and is easily accessible from the shore. Although the wreck is now very degraded by the elements, it is beautifully colonised with marine life. This wreck can be dived when staying at Alam Anda or Siddhartha Resort.
Located on the opposite side of the bay, there is a very good wall dive know as 'The Drop Off'. Formed by three coral covered Lava formations it offers a very good alternative second dive site.
Nusa Penida
Nusa Penida is part of a group of three islands sitting in the middle of the Lombok Channel. Its location makes for strong currents and drift dives in cooler water, but the upside of all this oceanic activity is lush reefs and the chance to spot large marine life. Some of the dive centres further north run seasonal trips here, in particular to dive with the mantas at Manta Point, or to spot the elusive mola molas at Crystal Bay. This last site is suitable for experienced divers only and for the best chance to see mola molas the water needs to be at its coolest - August through to October.

"We stayed at Alam Anda resort April 2024 as a result of having to relocate our holiday from Lembeh due to an erupting volcano.
All superbly re-arranged/organised by the Regal Team, very last minute while we were in transit, these things happen!
Having Regal on your side if things get sticky is a massive bonus, they really know how to sort things and let you get on with your holiday- faultless service.
We had previously stayed at Alam Anda about 7 years ago.
The dive resort has changed ownership but the guides are the same, expert, accomplished brilliant human beings who are kind and helpful, passionate divers who really know how to look after their guests.
Diving was lovely and just as we remembered, the house reef on our check dive was all turtles and octopus, all in about 10 meters. Local boat dives are great fun and we saw sea horses, frog fish, numerous shrimp, turtles, all sorts of nudibranch, healthy coral, endless fish activity.
The Liberty Wreck was just stunning with three octopus, beautiful soft corals on the bow that never fail to stop you in your tracks, barracuda, so many fish. The whole trip was an adventure and much fun, don't miss diving the coral garden on the other side of the beach, its great for small stuff and they have some artificial reef which is thriving and a photographers dream.
The hotel is blissful, tranquil and restful. Food is amazing and there is always a good choice, we never got bored and we were there for two weeks. Staff are kind beyond words and nothing is too much trouble. Road transfers are really interesting, try and land at night (roads quieter) but travel at least one way in daylight so you get to see the island.
Before you travel you can now register online to utilise the electronic immigration gates and complete your customs declaration to speed transit through the airport.
We ended up here by accident, it was no hardship. We had forgotten how wonderful a resort and dive operation it was whilst busy navigating other dive locations over the years, seeing the world as you do.
It was like coming home. We will most certainly go back.

Diving Liberty Wreck Was a Highlight
"Twin Centre Trip - Alam Anda & Taman Selini
The trips was everything that we expected, particularly at Alam Anda, although arguably the diving sites were better near to Taman Salini particularly the Marine Park. Taman Salini was very nice but was looking "tired". The transfers and ground arrangements were great and worked perfectly and drivers were all very friendly and vehicles clean and reliable.
Both our hotels were very good although, Taman Saleni is quite tired, but nevertheless was a nice hotel. The food was great. The dive sites were great, especially Liberty Wreck. The Dive Centre Staff were very good.
A favourite memory from the holiday was driving over the mountains and the high altitude lakes that we saw. Another highlight was Diving Liberty Wreck and generally the time that we spent at Alamanda.
The only problems we had were not within Regaldive’s, our or the hotels control. We had a three hour delay at Heathrow that meant we missed our connection in Singapore which led to a further 9 hour wait in Singapore. Regaldive kindly e-mailed the hotel and I also rang them from
Singapore and the driver was waiting for us as planned even though we were 12 hours late (and it was getting late in the evening) ... that was a welcome relief.
Singapore airlines looked after us very well putting us up in a hotel in Singapore which enabled us to shower and get a little sleep so they did everything they could to make the delay bearable.
We were most certainly happy with Regaldive’s service and will book again (Dollar exchange rate permitting!)."

Bali Feedback - Well Organised
"Holiday was great.
Monika broke her arm quite badly on day 3 and Bettina was very supportive and helpful and could not have helped us more.
We had a fantastic time. There was plenty to do and we did some really interesting and fun tours. We really enjoyed the company of the other guests and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
I did some snorkelling and one of the diving assistants came with me to show me the best spots on the reef and he was so kind and helpful and gave me confidence. Though I didn't do a diving course, Eric who was in charge, Bettina's partner was just the sort of person who I would have had confidence to do a course. He had such a lovely calm, professional manner, he inspired confidence! The pool at the resort was super.
Not sure what else to add, but the resort was beautiful with gardens, clean, well-cared for and felt very safe.
Thanks for your help organising the holiday for us. "

Thank You
"Hello Regal,
I would be very grateful if you would pass on this email to the management of the hotel because I really do want them to know how pleased we were with our holiday at Alam Anda.
We stayed between 13-20 August. I have never been to a friendlier place. All the staff were SO friendly and we were made to feel like friends and not guests. People couldn't do enough for us and we were treated like a king and queen! The best thing was that you noted from the records we filled in that it was my birthday while we were staying with you. I was really surprised when I got back from breakfast and there were some flowers and drinks on the balcony and a "Happy Birthday" message. That was such a lovely thing to do and I really enjoyed that. Things got even better in the evening. The waitresses in the restaurant came out with a cake and they sang "Happy Birthday" along with Rikke and Ulrik who we dived with at the dive centre. I was really really surprised and pleased and it made my 50th birthday so special. I couldn't have been in a better place for this "big" birthday! You really did make it for me.
I think it is such a special touch that you take time and care to note people's birthdays and all my friends back home are really impressed by what you did. That is a prime example of first class customer service! The Alam Anda is one of the best places I've stayed and I thank you all for making it such an enjoyable stay. I have highly recommended it to all my friends!
Thank you again,
Beverly Denton"

Welcome Home
"Hi Simon,
As promised, just a note to let you know how we got on in Bali…
As usual the organisation was spot on, with all the right people in the right place at the right time. The Alam Anda hotel was perfect and in a great setting.
The Werner Lau diving centre was well run with plenty of willing hands to make the diving as easy as it could be for us. The diving was very good, and the dive guides (local lads) knew where to find the best things. The centres dive boat was out of commission until the last two days of our diving, so we used the local trimaran canoes as a substitute (that was certainly an experience not to be missed!). We were lucky enough to see a Mola Mola, (rare this time of year) and became celebrities over night.
The only drawback was that the dive package we purchased up front only included the very local dive sites, and any sites a bit further away, usually the better ones, were a short bus ride away at an extra charge.
We did not let this spoil our holiday and once again we had a great time, thank you very much.
