Dive info
Soma Bay is located just 45km from Hurghada airport. The resort boasts some of the most beautiful sandy beaches in the Red Sea and panoramic views of desert mountains. Soma Bay gives access to some of the best dive sites in the Red Sea and offers fabulous snorkelling, shore and boat diving.
Learning to Dive
The house reef at Soma Bay stretches from the east to the west of the peninsula. With a diverse marine life and an abundance of corals it is truly a delight for all experience levels. A lagoon lies at the front of the reef and provides sheltered waters ideal for training. The house reef boasts a fantastic array of marine life with sightings of large pelagics like barracuda, turtles and eagle rays being commonplace.
Qualified Divers
Panorama Reef is a huge coral formation - its walls dropping to over 200m with numerous grottos and overhangs, gorgonians and soft corals. Due to the currents, this site is one of the highlights of the area and best dived as a drift dive. Jacks, barracudas and reef sharks often visit the area and a well-known family of napoleon wrasse are frequently sighted.
Abu Kafan, or ‘the deep one’, is probably the most spectacular dive site in the area with stunning, sheer walls plummeting towards the seafloor hundreds of metres below. Luxuriant soft corals, gorgonians and black corals abound and this is a regular haunt of schooling barracuda, reef sharks and turtles.
Wreck enthusiasts are often drawn to Safaga to visit the Salem Express, an Egyptian passenger ferry that sank on its return journey from Mecca in 1991. 300 victims perished in one of the greatest marine tragedies of all time. This is a stunning site but a dive that is generally considered one for reflection rather than pleasure.

Love it, cool vibe, and the
"Love it, cool vibe, and the staff all remembered me from the previous year, which made me instantly feel at home. The diving provided huge green turtles, lots of night dives and a nice close encounter with a grey reef shark."

Diving experience was great -
"Diving experience was great - Orca Dive Centre very supportive and professional. The Breakers Hotel was outstanding - couldn’t fault it in any respect whatsoever. "

Personal, friendly, prompt
"Personal, friendly, prompt service and regular updates from Cath, especially given the context of booking and rebooking due to the pandemic. Excellent efficiency from the local contact in Hurghada, personal service and support by Orca Dive Club Soma Bay. My instructor and guides were all excellent."
Gabby
Excellent diving
"Everything was easy and close at hand. The diving was excellent with lots to see and plenty of different ways of seeing things.
It couldn’t have been more relaxed. Which for me celebrating my 70th birthday made it very special. On both the diving and The Breakers Hotel "

Outstanding Dive Centre Staff
"The Breakers Hotel was, in our view, a more friendly and engaging place than the more sterile Sheraton next door. Having the dive centre in the hotel grounds made it very easy. The hotel was occupied 95% by German tourists, who were all very pleasant and happy to converse in English to us.
The dive centre staff were outstanding: very professional, helpful and pleasant, and it was good to see the coral thriving.
The transfers worked very well and the accommodation was clean, with excellent air conditioning and good food. It was good value for money.
My favourite experience was Carolyn enjoying the experience of ‘positive entry’ - descending directly from stepping off the boat transom!
As an aside, having a golf course next door to enjoy a game on the last, non-diving day before flying, worked very well.
Regaldive was very efficient and we would book with you again."

We Plan to Visit Again
"The dive setup is very good with great staff, they do a multitude of courses from many different agencies. I did the IANTD Rebreather trimix course. Make sure to book in advance any diving course and select which unit you want. It is great not having to take a rebreather with you: my friend had a 7 hour dive to 160m and was guided. They have a locked tech room for you to store and set up your gear in, and it is great to have all the gases on hand. The snorkelling at the end of the jetty to the right is very, very good, it is like a labyrinth for you to get lost in. Stunning.
We have now stayed at this hotel twice and plan to visit again. It is small and the staff are friendly and helpful. There is a good variety of food which was delicious - especially good on The Middle Eastern night... The diving and snorkeling were good and the reefs were in good condition. There is a weekly disco which is unobtrusive and doesn't destroy the generally quiet ambiance.
Room Tip: Go for a sea view or a desert view, as the pool is not particularly scenic. "

The Breakers, Soma Bay
"We are just back from the Breakers in Soma Bay and it was great. It is an ideal location but very remote. The hotel has good food, friendly staff and a great atmosphere.
The food has been excellent, prices for drinks etc, although not cheap, are not unaffordable, but the service and quality of the hotel makes the prices more than acceptable.
The Orca Dive centre was very professional. The house reef is an easy and relaxing dive.

Breakers- Feedback
"We are just back from Breakers in Soma Bay and it was brilliant! A very big thank you to John for the recommendation, it really was the perfect location for our group of mixed ages and abilities. We loved the hotel with the good food, friendly staff and great atmosphere.
The Orca Dive centre was very professional and I felt our 13 year old granddaughter was in safe hands when learning to dive and on her first excursion diving from a boat. The staff there went out of their way to look after her and build her confidence. She was thrilled to get her PADI Open Water qualification. My daughter enjoyed the all day and half day dives from the spacious dive boats and the company of other divers of mixed European backgrounds.
We loved snorkeling on the house reef watching the kite and wind surfers and relaxing at the hotel. We all enjoyed the food and the banter with the hotel staff. It was a great trip and perfectly fitted the brief I gave you. Once again thanks from all of us."

The Breakers, Soma Bay- very, very impressed.
"Dear Clare,
We are currently at the bar at Breakers, after another absolutely fabulous buffet dinner. We felt strongly that we should tell how very very impressed we are with the hotel, staff and diving.
The service and professionalism are second to none, the staff brilliant and kind and helpful. The diving is superb, tuition great, thorough and professional. The food has been excellent, prices for drinks etc, whilst not cheap, are not unaffordable, but the service and quality of the hotel makes the prices more than acceptable.
Our son qualified as open water diver today - and I accompanied his check out dive, and saw him comfortable and safe.
Please recommend this place to your discerning clientele, as it only lacks British patronage!
As I'm sure you know, there is little here except the hotel, diving, kitesurfing and sunbathing. But the rooms, pool, space, cleanliness etc are 5 stars.
Thank you for promoting it to us.
Simon and Helen James"
