Liveaboard Information
Bikini Atoll Diving
Liveaboard departures to Bikini Atoll are for those with suitable technical and wreck diving qualifications. As the wrecks of Bikini Atoll are at depths beyond recognised recreational diving, limits they are only suited for extended range diving. The Pacific Master will offer 2 technical dives on each full diving day, allowing up to 13 dives in total on a 10 night liveaboard itinerary. Divers are responsible for planning their own dives, with the assistance of the Cruise Director who has dived the wrecks of Bikini many times already.
For safety, the minimum surface interval between dives is 4 hours and, it is mandatory to take an afternoon off from diving mid-trip. An optional land tour of Bikini Island and beach BBQ will be offered in place of diving on this day.
Truk Lagoon Diving
Up to 4 recreational dives a day are offered on Truk Lagoon itineraries, either as 4 day dives, or 3 day dives and a night dive. Many of the wrecks visited are within recreational diving depth limits, however others are only suitable for divers with technical diving certifications. The Pacific Master has facilities on board for those with the training and experience.
Conditions in Truk Lagoon are very pleasant for diving, with water temperatures consistently around 28°C throughout the year, with visibility generally in excess of 30 metres.
Itineraries
Please note that liveaboard itineraries can change without notice. The itinerary will depend on several local factors including, but not limited to, weather, diving ability of guests & the number of other boats already present at the various dive sites. All dive sites visited are subject to weather conditions and are at the discretion of your dive guides and vessel captain.
Dive Information
Bikini Atoll
Bikini Lagoon is the first UNESCO World Heritage Site for the Marshall Islands archipelago and is undisputedly ranked first on any serious wreck diver's bucket-list.
After the end of WWII, the Americans amassed a fleet of ships comprising both Japanese and American vessels. Two nuclear bombs were then unleashed, one from the air and one from underwater, unleashing untold devastation. More than 75 years on, the area is now considered safe enough to dive, with liveaboard expeditions offers to suitably qualified technical divers to explore the legendary Ghost Fleet.
There are 21 shipwrecks to discover on this once in a lifetime adventure, famously known as the Ghost Fleet. Wreck highlights here include USS Saratoga, a huge aircraft carrier and the shallowest of the Bikini wrecks which allows for multiple penetration dives, HIJMS Nagato - a feared Japanese battleship, USS Arkansas, USS Anderson and the USS Lamson. Choose from 10, 11 or 13 night itineraries and explore this shipwreck graveyard.
Truk Lagoon
Truk Lagoon is enclosed by a 225 kilometre barrier reef, covering more than 2,000 square kilometres, and is home to an entire Japanese fleet, sunk in 1944. Frozen in time, complete with sake cups, a submarine, jeeps, tanks and fighter planes still waiting in the hangars, all encrusted with coral, the area has been declared an underwater museum.
Nowhere else in the world are there so many wrecks tightly packed into a coral reef lagoon and at diveable depths. Enjoy Truk Lagoon by liveaboard to experience the best diving in this unique dive destination, with quite simply, the finest wreck diving in the world!
Planning your Holiday
Flight info
For Bikini Atoll, you will need to first fly from the UK into Honolulu and overnight here. The following day, you continue to the Marshall Islands, crossing the International Date Line before landing in Kwajalein Airport. Flights typically take up to two days.
All passengers travelling via Honolulu need to complete an ESTA. This must be done online in advance of UK departure. The Visa Waiver Programme (VWP) allows most British Citizen passport holders to visit the US for up to 90 days. The types of journey allowed under the VWP include tourism, certain types of business visit and transit to another country.
For Truk Lagoon, typically you will need to first fly from the UK into Manila International Airport (MNL) and there are various airlines to choose from. You will then take another flight from Manila to Chuuk (TKK) with United Airlines. Other routes are available through South Korea and Japan.
Please note that the United Airlines flights operate via Guam (GUM) both ways. Guam is an unincorporated and organised territory of the United States, and as such, all passengers travelling via Guam need to complete an ESTA. This must be done online in advance of UK departure.
A visit to Truk involves multiple airlines and tickets, therefore it is necessary to build in a sensible amount of additional time en-route in case of flight delays. Suitable insurance to cover unforeseen travel delays is also strongly recommended.
Airport tax
Visitors are required to pay a departure tax when leaving the country by air. Please make sure you have cash available, as credit cards are not accepted and ATM machines are not available at the airports.
Visas
Entry requirements vary from country to country, and it’s important to check the latest visa information well before you travel. Some destinations may allow visa-free entry for a limited period, while others require an eVisa or a visa obtained in advance. To ensure you have the correct documentation for your trip, we recommend checking the official advice from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) or contacting the relevant country’s embassy or consulate. Other nationalities should check with their own consulate/embassy.
Passports
Before you travel, make sure your passport is valid for the full duration of your trip and meets the entry requirements of your destination. Many countries require at least six months’ validity beyond your planned return date, while others may have different rules. For the most reliable and up-to-date information, visit the UK Government’s passport guidance or the official travel advice pages for your destination. Other nationalities should check with their own consulate/embassy.
If you’re planning to travel to or via an EU country (with certain exceptions) your UK passport must meet two key requirements, it must be less than 10 years old on the day you enter the country and it must be valid for at least three months after your planned departure date.
Vaccinations & Health Advice
Health and vaccination requirements differ depending on where you're travelling. Some destinations may require proof of specific vaccinations or recommend certain precautions to protect your wellbeing.
We’re not qualified to provide you with specific advice on vaccinations and strongly recommend that you contact your healthcare professional before you travel to discuss the inoculations you may need to consider.
For trusted guidance on health and vaccination advice, refer to the NHS Travel Vaccination Advice, Masta Travel Health or Travel Health Pro websites.
