Built in 1934, the colonial style resort oozes charm and benefits from views of the Indian Ocean and the local golf course. 20 spacious and newly renovated en-suite rooms are available for divers, with options for single, twin and family rooms. The resort is a great option for single divers, with no single supplements. Larger groups are also well catered for.
Facilities
Additional facilities include an on-site restaurant and bar that benefits from sea views, a wood fired pizza oven with pizza served daily, a sun deck, a small swimming pool, 24/7 security and complimentary Wi-Fi.
In addition to diving, the friendly resort staff can also arrange land-based excursions and activities or car rental to explore the region under your own steam. We recommend taking a short stroll down to the local beach to enjoy the local seafood restaurant.

Itineraries
Blue Ocean Dive Resort offer 6-, 7- and 9-night itineraries that include accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis, transfers and daily diving on the Aliwal Shoal.
For the more adventurous, extended 10- or 12-night adventures taking in both Aliwal Shoal and the outstanding shark diving of Ponto de Ouro in southern Mozambique can be arranged. Please enquire with our friendly team for details.

The dive resort is well regarded for friendly and knowledgeable diving professionals, superior boats and equipment, boasting an outstanding safety record in an area of dynamic and occasionally challenging conditions.
Two morning dives are generally offered to benefit from the best local conditions. The resort has three RIBs each taking eight divers transporting divers out to the Aliwal Shoal, around 7 kilometres away, in just 10 to 15 minutes.
Extended twin centre adventures can also be arranged, combining Aliwal Shoal with Ponta do Ouro in Mozambique.

Helpful Information
Umkomaas serves as the gateway to Aliwal Shoal and is where most divers stay. It’s a quiet, unassuming town with dive lodges, guesthouses, and friendly local eateries. The pace of life here is slow and relaxed, centred around early morning launches, daily dive briefings, and post-dive storytelling.
Planning your Holiday
Unkomaas and the Aliwal Shoal are reached via Durban, with international connections via the Middle East, Johannesburg and other African transport hubs.
Visas
Entry requirements vary from country to country, and it’s important to check the latest visa information well before you travel. Some destinations may allow visa-free entry for a limited period, while others require an eVisa or a visa obtained in advance. To ensure you have the correct documentation for your trip, we recommend checking the official advice from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) or contacting the relevant country’s embassy or consulate. Other nationalities should check with their own consulate/embassy.
Passports
Before you travel, make sure your passport is valid for the full duration of your trip and meets the entry requirements of your destination. Many countries require at least six months’ validity beyond your planned return date, while others may have different rules.
