The island boasts a warm, tropical climate year-round, with temperatures typically ranging between 25°C and 30°C. The best time to visit for calm seas and optimal visibility is during the dry seasons from June to October or December to February, when weather conditions are best, water temperatures are at their warmest, and visibility can extend up to 30 metres.
These periods also offer the best opportunities to encounter pelagic species, such as whale sharks and manta rays. The rainy seasons of April to May and November bring reduced visibility and can make conditions less favourable for diving. However, with a variety of dive sites accessible from the east, north, and west coasts, there are always opportunities to explore Zanzibar’s underwater world.
